OUR VOLUNTEERS

The Hospital de la Familia Foundation sends teams of 40-45 U.S. surgeons, medical specialists, nurses and medical technicians to the hospital for 2 weeks, 4 to 6 times a year. Teams of eye specialists make additional trips. Over 1000 volunteer professionals have participated in this program. Volunteer anesthesiologists, clinic nurses, general surgeons, gynecologists, ophthalmologists, plastic surgeons, recovery room nurses, and scrub nurses make up the surgical teams.They contribute their time, pay their own expenses, and help to secure donations of medical supplies which they bring with them. In addition, physicians and some support staff contribute $1500 (tax-deductible) per trip. RNs also contribute $500 (tax-deductible).  Transportation, room and board are provided by the Foundation.
